Can you believe fall is upon us once again? The cooler days bring plenty of opportunities to get out and explore our beautiful province. We plan on taking advantage of the season to discover something new and we hope you can do the same! This month, we wanted to highlight a community that is perfect to explore right now; Smithville! Part of the Township of West Lincoln, this area is fantastic for those who are ready to trade in the hustle and bustle of the city for quieter pastures. Of course, that doesn’t mean you’re leaving behind everything that you’re used to in the city – you’ll still find plenty to do in Smithville and the surrounding areas that will keep you busy throughout the fall season..

Become Immersed in the Community

Being part of the West Lincoln Township means being privy to all of the community activities that take place throughout the year. One of the biggest perks of living in the area is the access to incredible local produce; you’re in the heart of farm country and will be able to enjoy fresh goods right outside your front door. The weekly West Lincoln Farmer’s Market takes place on Fridays at the West Lincoln Community Centre, providing residents with a great opportunity to connect with the farmers they purchase their goods from.

Throughout the year, you and your family will also be able to take part in a series of festivities that are held throughout the area, wiith events like the annual Easter Egg Hunt, Music in the Park, Movies in the Park, the West Lincoln Christmas Parade, and the West Lincoln Tree Lighting. Of course, you’ll also enjoy making a yearly visit to The West Niagara Fair, the amalgamation of the former Smithville Fair and Lincoln County Fair, full of fun activities, events and vendors for the whole family to fall in love with!

Fun for the Kids

Moving to a quieter area doesn’t mean that the kids will have nothing to do! This community gives them a great chance to explore, get active, and get involved. With 4 elementary schools and one high school, they’ll be quickly immersed in the community, and will find plenty of opportunities to have fun outside of this!

Getting active won’t be an issue, with various leagues and sports clubs available for them to join. They’ll find lots of things to keep them occupied at the West Lincoln Arena and Community Centre and the Smithville Sports Complex. They’ll also have lots of green space to explore, with numerous parks and trails scattered throughout the area.

Smithville is also home to The FORT Youth Centre, a foundation with resources for teens that empowers them to make positive choices and get involved in the community. The FORT gives them access to supervised programs, reliable support and access to crisis intervention resources, giving them a place where they feel supported and welcomed.

Grab a Bite

Don’t forget to check out the local restaurants! You’ll quickly become accustomed to the offerings in town and in the nearby communities once you’ve made your way to Smithville. Find the best wings in town at Touchdown Willy’s or grab a bite at local favourites The Flat Top Grill and Laki’s Family Restaurant. Have a slice (or two!) at Smithville Pizzeria and Buzzard’s Pizza, and enjoy tasty dishes from New Golden Village Chinese Food.
